Dorothea M. Sypniewski-Rukes, 91, of Crown Point, Previously Dyer, IN passed away peacefully Friday, September 20, 2024 surrounded by family.

She was preceded in death by her Husbands, Robert M. Long, Robert F. Sypniewski, and Merle Rukes; and parents Henry and Vivian Wolff.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Robin) Long; daughter, Venessa Ann (Tom) Zapchenk; Merle’s sons, Gregory (Debbie) Rukes, Bruce (Jan) Rukes, and Garry (Becky) Rukes; grandchildren, Eric (Danielle) Zapchenk, Michele (John) Zapchenk-Morris, Katherine Long, and Emily (Manny) Salazar; great-grandchildren, Edie Lynn Zapchenk, Reid Zapchenk, and Thomas James (TJ) Morris plus many extended grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She spent her professional career as a cost analyst at Lockheed Martin, and was a longtime volunteer at Saint Maria Goretti and Franciscan of Dyer Hospital’s gift shop. She spent 12 years involved in her beloved choir, Lake County Extension Homemakers Association Choir: The Noteables.

Friends can visit with the family Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 9:00AM-10:00AM. With a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. at St. Maria Goretti 500 Northgate Dr, Dyer, IN 46311.

In lieu of Flowers please donate to the Lake County Extension Homemakers Association Choir: The Noteables, with checks payable to “Lake County Extension Noteables, in care of Venessa Zapchenk” and mail them to: 9977 Mathews St. Crown Point Indiana 46307.

I met Dorothea at Virginia Place, I was the administrative assistant. She always had a smile on her face, a complement to give you, and if you were lucky a piece of chocolate to get you through the day. I treasured our talks, and friendship, and even though I left, we still kept in contact and phoned each other often. I will miss you, my dear friend, may you rest in peace. It is not goodbye, it is until we meet again. ❤️
