Dorothy Jaracz Dee, 99, of Munster IN, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, July 22, 2024.
Dorothy was born on September 7, 1924 to Frank and Julia Jaracz in East Chicago, IN. She graduated with the class of 1943 from Roosevelt High School, after which she worked at the Riley Bank in East Chicago. She then married Walter, who would be her devoted husband for 62 years. They set out west to Inglewood, CA before choosing to settle down in Portland, OR, where they made their home, as well as many lifelong friends.
After 40 years out west, they made the decision to move to Munster to be closer to their Indiana family.
Dorothy was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling extensively, was considered a skilled bridge player and was a passionate reader. She was considered a gracious hostess, frequently entertaining and holding dinner parties.
Throughout her life, Dorothy volunteered her time with a number of charities and supported many causes.
When the effects of age began to take its toll in her final years, Dorothy was shown love and kindness by her caregiver, Natasha Lusumpa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents, Frank and Julia; her brothers, Dr. Leonard Jaracz (Virginia) and Ronald Jaracz (Pamela); and brothers in law, R.O. Smith and Arnold Vierk.
She is survived by her son, Robert Dee (Marsha), daughter, Lorraine Dee; grandson, Matthew Dee (Heather); and sisters, Helen Smith and Joan Vierk; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy will be laid to rest next to Walter at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave., Crown Point, IN.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org made in her memory would be appreciated.
