Dorothy M. Giannini, 74, of Munster, IN passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Tuesday, January 19, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Arthur; daughter, Mary (Tim) Wells; sons, Art and John Giannini; grandchildren, Anthony, Dominic, Annabelle, Peter, Carter, Sarah, Sam and Cate; brothers, James Caporale and Francis (Brenda) Caporale; sister, Sr. Ann Marie Caporale, O.S.M. and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Sally Caporale. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 2:00-7:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. and on Monday from 9:30-10:00 am at church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Fr. Ted Mauch officiating on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will be at St. Joseph-St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Dorothy taught in both the Chicago and Hammond School systems in addition to the Gary Diocese. She taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at the Hammond Area Career Center for 20 years before she retired. Dorothy was a member of the Secular Order of the Servants of Mary, St. Thomas More Church and the Lake County Retired Teachers Association. Dorothy was an avid reader who loved to travel, go to the theater, garden and spend time with her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center, P.O. Box 7072, Indianapolis, IN 46207-7072, www.myiu.org or Savior of the World, 7723 West State Road, LaPorte, IN 46350, www.savioroftheworld.org in her memory would be appreciated.

I am sorry I will miss the wake and funeral but I leave for Phoenix on the 24th. Please know I will always remember Dorothy for her soft spoken kindness. You are in my prayers.

Dear Art and St. Ann Marie, I am so sorry for your loss. I consider myself privileged to have known Dorothy. I will always remember our prayers at Ann Singel's house with her and Art. I know she will be missed by her family, but she led an exemplary life. I'm so sorry to miss her wake and funeral but I will be on my way to Phoenix on Sunday the 24th. Rest in Peace

I was so sorry to hear of Dorothy's passing. We were life time friends beginning in grammar school, Girl Scouts, High School and beyond. I knew her parents well and her sister Connie too. I will always remember her for her bright smile and enthusiasm for the many things she took on. My condolences to Art and all the family.
