Dorothy M (Rosene) Nolen, (86) of Munster, Indiana passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2008. She was born on September 4, 1922, in Hammond, Indiana, to Edward and Ella Rosene. She married the love of her life, Richard (Jim) Nolen, on September 2, 1944, who preceeded her in death. Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of Hammond High School and an active member in her community. She was a working partner in Nolen Plumbing and Heating in East Chicago, Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star in Indiana Harbor, Past President of Phi Iota Psi of Highland, Past Treasurer, for many years, of the Carmelite Guild, and member of First Presbyterian Church of Highland. She always felt the necessity to give to those in need in her community and her spirit of concern and givingwas passed along to all who knew her. Her love of animals embodied her love of life. She firmly believed that kindness to all of God’s creatures indicated the true nature of one’s soul. Her most recent pet, Snickers, was at her side and provided her comfort when she passed. She is survived by her loving children; Cheryl (Bradley) Atkinson, Timothy (Bonnie) Nolen, Colleen Nolen, Richard (Sue) Nolen, Robyn (William) Lowry, James Nolen, and very dear friend, Michael Kahane; 9 grand-children and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her very dear friend and compassionate caretakerfor the last eight years, Ohla. Her family is deeply grateful for the care, compassion and friendship that Ohla provided to Dorothy. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008, from 3:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. (next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, at 10:00 am from the First Presbyterian Church of Highland, 8727 Delaware, Highland, Indiana. Interment will be at the side of her loving husband in Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
