Dr. David M. Harvey, 83 of Munster, IN passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2013. He was born February 8, 1930 to Kate and Harry Harvey of Schenectady, NY, who preceded him in death. Dr. Harvey is survived by his wife of 59 years Donnie and his children, Susan (Jeff) Robinson of Chalmers, IN, Daniel (Sandra) Harvey of Munster, IN and Dr. Peter (Denise) Harvey of Senoia, GA; five grandchildren, Jesse Robinson and Katie (Erik) Snowberger of Brookston, IN, Sara, Andrew and Alex Harvey of Munster, IN. He is survived by his brother, Donald (Joyce) Harvey of Carlsbad, CA and their children, David, Anne, Jon and Steven from California. Dr. Harvey graduated from Union College in Schenectady and obtained his Medical Degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He interned at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN and completed his orthopedic residency and boards while serving in the U.S. Army. While in Korea, he was the Commander of the 11th Medical Evacuation Hospital in Pusan. Dr. Harvey retired from service after 8 years and joined the Hammond Clinic. He established his private practice of 38 years in Hammond and Munster. Dr. Harvey was on the planning commission for Community Hospital and was the first Chief Medical Staff President. He also served as Chief of Staff at St. Margaret Hospital. Dr. Harvey was actively involved in charitable organizations that included YMCA, Woodmar Child Development Center, Trade Winds and Children of Abraham. After his retirement, the family enjoyed traveling, fishing, hiking and bird hunting. Dr. Harvey had a full life with many friends and will be truly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 7:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave., in Munster, IN with Pastor Steve Conger officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 – 7:00 PM on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Children of Abraham or Hospice of the Calumet Area in his memory would be appreciated.
