Dr. John Maniotes, 73, of Munster, IN passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marion (Mary) nee Demantes; daughter: Dionne (Steve) Hulsey Sr.; sons: Sam (Debbe) Maniotes and Andrew (Kristy Cooper) Maniotes; grandsons: Steven Jr. and John Hulsey; brother: Nick (Valerie) Maniotes; sisters: Helen (Peter) Lekas and Dena Culbertson; aunt: Libby Karras; numerous nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents: Sam and Anna Maniotes. Visitation will be on Sunday, May 17, 2009 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave (next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be Monday, May, 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 7021 Hohman Ave. Hammond, IN; Fr. David Bissias officiating; Interment, Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN. Dr. John Maniotes was Professor Emeritus, founder and first Department Head in the Information Systems & Computer Programming Department (formerly called the Computer Technology Department) at Purdue University Calumet. He joined the faculty of the University in 1963, where he taught for 38 years. His professional experience includes over 45 years of information systems in the area of process control; simulation; computer hardware/software/services selection; RFP preparation, contract negotiations and programming in a variety of computer languages. He earned his PhD, M.S. and B.S. degrees in Engineering from Purdue University. He published 15 textbooks, 2 laboratory manuals over 30 journal articles and is the holder of one U.S. patent. John had served as an I.T. consultant to many local school districts, town, city, county government, business and industry. In 2001, he received the Distinguished Service Award from the Purdue Alumni Association. He was on the Board of Directors of Cenifax Management Services, a company specializing in computer consulting and facilities management. He was a member of the Order of AHEPA Hammond Chapter 123 who will hold services on Sunday at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Purdue University Calumet Sam and John Maniotes Scholarship Fund, Les Turner ALS Foundation or Hospice of the Calumet Area in his memory would be appreciated.
