Edward D. Sidor, 81, passed away at the W.J. Riley Hospice Residence on Sunday, June 8, 2008 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Ed was born December 28, 1926 to Vincente and Teresa Sidor of East Chicago, IN. He attended St. Stanislaus School and East Chicago Roosevelt High School. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Signalman on Guam in the evacuation and relocation of Japanese and American servicemen. He was employed at Mobil Oil Co. and Wolverine Pipeline until his retirement in 1992. Ed was a lifetime member of American Legion Allied Post 369, a life-long Cubs, Bears, I.U. basketball and Notre Dame football fan (even though 3 children went to Purdue!) He married Jean (Schwartz) in 1956 and moved to Munster in 1957. They joined St. Thomas More Parish where he was active in Holy Name, served as Cubmaster of Pack 542, then Scoutmaster of Troop 542. He was an umpire and coach for both Munster Little League and Girl’s Softball. He deeply valued his friendship with his St. Thomas More Garden Club buddies, was an active Eucharistic Minister, member of the Vocations Committee and a member of the original Parish Festival group. He most enjoyed and loved his children and grandchildren, fishing, golfing, bowling, laughing and traveling. Ed is survived by his wife Jean, children Martin (Linda), their 3 children Jason and Becky of Cranbury, NJ and Christy (Dave) Williams of Little Rock, AR.; daughters Joanna (Dennis) Huis of Durango, CO.; Anita (Tom) Hemingway and their 3 children, Allison, Jake and Katie of Munster; sister Lillian Zywiec of Montgomery, AL. and many loving nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son Tom, parents, 3 brothers, Matt, Walter and Ted; 2 sisters Julia Mola and Stephanie Sanusky; A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday June 11, 2008 at 10:00 AM from St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN; Interment: Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood, IL. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. (next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul, Share Foundation, Hospice of the Calumet Area or a charity of your choice.
