Eleni Maniatis, age 97, of Schererville, IN passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2015 surrounded by her family and loved ones. She is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law Bessie and Gus Karalis; her cherished grandchildren: Helen (Sam) Cappas, Jimmy (Lemonia Vardaros) Karalis and Nickita Karalis; three beautiful great- grandchildren who she loved more than anything: Maria and Angelo Cappas, and Vasiliki Karalis; also survived by loving nieces and nephews: George (Evelyn) Gatsiopoulos, Jenny (Kosta) Tselos and several others in Greece. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kosta Koliatchis; her brother, Papa Kimon Maniatis; her sisters: Sophia Maniatis and Panagoula Gatsiopoulos; and her angel niece Sophia Maniatis. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Trisagion prayer service 7:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 528 W. 77th Ave. Schererville, IN with Fr. Constantine Aliferakis officiating. Interment will be at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Yaiyai Eleni was born on July 14, 1917 in Pikerni, Arkadias Greece. She came to America and devoted her life to help raise her cherished grandchildren. She embodied the meaning of \”nikokyra\”. She cooked, baked, kept a garden and knitted until her last days. She loved the church and God and will be remembered by all who loved her for her smile and golden heart.
