Elizabeth Paschen, 97, of Schererville, Indiana died peacefully and went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on August 11, 2026. She is survived by her daughter, Beth (Gordon) Klemm, daughter-in-law Nancy Paschen and 5 grandchildren: Tom (Brooke) Paschen, Dan (Mackenzie) Paschen, Derek Klemm, Rachel (Ian) Dunn and Aubrey Klemm, and her two nieces Gail McClusky and Lynn Ritter. She was also blessed by 3 great-grandchildren; Stella, Everly and Sam. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman, her son, Jeffrey and sisters Inge and Edie.
Born on November 28, 1928 in Calumet City, Illinois to parents Henry and Bertha Lange, she grew up in Whiting Indiana and graduated from Whiting High in 1947. She married Norm on May 19, 1950. When Jeff and Beth were in grade school, the family moved to Ashtabula, Ohio where Norm worked for Union Carbide. There, everyone called her “Betty”. In 1969, the Paschens moved to Highland, Indiana where she again went by “Liz”.
Liz was a homemaker for many years. Later she worked for Minas Department store (River Oaks) and then began a 20 year career at Purdue Calumet, as a secretary for the Foreign Language and Fine Arts Department. She was an avid card player, enjoyed sewing, embroidery and working on puzzles. She always supported Norm’s passion for playing the oboe at church and in the local symphony, as well as directing the church choir. Sadly, Norm passed away when he was 48 in 1973. Liz continued to be involved in her church, Trinity Lutheran, in Hammond, Indiana. There she packed Braille Bible Books and was active in the ladies Dorcas Society. She moved to Storypoint Senior Living in 2017 where she continued to play cards and other games and made new friends.
