FRED L. BROWN MUNSTER, IN Fred L. Brown, age 95, of Munster, formerly of Chicago, Michiana, and Calumet City, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Preceded in death by parents, Rebecca and Louis Brown of Chicago; brother Nathan Brown; and beloved wife of 68 years, Berdine Devera (nee Kissen) Brown. Loving father of Dr. Lorin (Helen) of Munster, and Dr. Sheldon (Mindy) of Scottsdale, Arizona. Grandfather to David (Colleen), Rebecca, Alison, and Jason; Great-grandfather to Jackson and Avery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Temple Beth-El, 10001 Columbia Avenue, Munster. The family invites friends to stay for a memorial in remembrance of Fred. Private graveside service for family on Friday. Born in Chicago, Fred attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, where he earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in engineering, and later obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago. During his long and productive engineering career, he worked for the U.S. Air Force (during World War II), for NASA, and in research and development for various area manufacturing companies. Fred held 52 patents for major inventions ranging from commonly used hardware devices to important advancements in technology for the U.S. Air Force and NASA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in his honor.
