Frederick J. Loomis, Age 79, of Griffith, formerly of Munster, IN, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008. He was born in Hammond to the late Arthur and Rosella (Hough) Loomis. Survived by loving wife of 58 years, Roberta (Sheely); nine children, Fred Jr. (Linda) of Hammond, Mike (Cathy) of LaPorte, Rose (Dale Ray) of Gary, Roberta Anne (Robert McKinney) of Valparaiso, Adeline (Rick Gragido) of Portage, Thomas (Belinda) of St. John, Barbara (Steve Gonzalez) of Stafford, VA, Nancy (Mike Ranger) of Rockford, IL, and John (Toni) of Griffith; 50 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren; brother Arthur, of Crown Point.Proceeded in death by two brothers, George and Ray Smith, one sister, Adeline Loomis. Fred graduated from Hammond High School in 1947 and remained active with his classmates as an organizer of his class reunions. While living in Munster, Fred was a Little League Baseball Coach and Boy Scout Leader. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Knights of Columbus and an Elder at St. Thomas More Church. After moving to Griffith, Fred was very involved in Griffith Girls Softball both as a coach and league historian. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church. Fred was employed at Inland Steel in the Wire Shop and the Mold Foundry until his retirement in 1985. He was also employed at the Indiana Harbor Coke Company from 2001 until 2004. He enjoyed Amateur Radio, Photography, Genealogy, Bowling, and Computers and was very involved with family activities and reunions. Fred was a very loving father and Grandfather, Devoted Husband, and Mentor. He will be truly missed by his entire family. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 7, 2008, at 12:00 PM from Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. (next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN. Interment will be private. Visitation will be on Friday from 3:00-8:00 PM and Saturday From 10:00-12:00 PM at the funeral home;
