George “Gene” Leahy, 86 of Schererville, IN formerly of Munster, IN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane (nee Stuber); children, Maureen (Bob) Matthews, Jeannie (Tim) Dworniczek, Mary “Patti” (Bill) Sopata, Gerry (Sue) Leahy and Marian Leahy; grandchildren, Michael (Joanne) Lis, Daniel (Fiance Aly) Lis, Mary Beth (Jason) Kaplan, Matthew (Amy) Stevens, Colleen (Dave) Thomas, Brigid Dworniczek, Mark (Polly Falaschetti) Sopata, Diane (Nick) Serna, Kristin (Jason) Douts, Patrick Leahy, Luke and Aaron Czapla; 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.Visitation will be on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Saturday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, Munster, IN. Interment will be at St. Joseph / St. John Cemetery, Hammond, IN.Gene was involved for 40 years with the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. John Bosco Church and was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Church. Gene retired from ARA after 40 years and was a former Pastoral Volunteer at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. John Bosco Church would be appreciated.
