Gilbert Franklin Blackmun

Gilbert Blackmun, 73, of Schererville, IN passed away on Friday, November 19, 2010. Born in Hammond to Dorothy and Warner Blackmun, he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail; sons, Steven (Rebecca) Blackmun of New Carlisle, IN and Timothy Blackmun of Chicago, IL; daughter, Ellen (Stephen) Probst of Schererville, IN; brother, Fred (Laurie) Blackmun of Dallas, TX; grandsons, Mortimer Gilbert Blackmun, Hunter Harrison Probst and Greyson Edward Probst; four stepgrandchildren.Gib was a graduate and three-sport athlete at Hammond High School; he received his degrees in Business Administration and Law from the University of Wisconsin, where he played football for four years, belonged to Kappa Sigma Fraternity and served as Senior Class President. He was a local attorney for 47 years, a member of the Lake County, Indiana and American Bar Associations, and past president of the Hammond Bar Association. He served as a member of the Hammond Jaycees, board member for the Brooks House of Christian Services and as president and board member of Goodwill Industries. He was a former member and ten-year elder of First Presbyterian Church in Hammond. Gib has been a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Munster since 1980. He is past president of Woodmar Country Club and a member of the Hammond Sports Hall of Fame.Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2010 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. A Memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:30 AM from Westminster Presbyterian Church 8955 Columbia Ave. Munster, IN. Memorials may be given to the University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation, 5841 South Maryland Ave., Chicago, IL 60637, Hospice of the Calumet Area or the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
