Giovannina Bonfiglio, age 100, of Dyer, IN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.   She was born in Gioiosa Marea, Sicily, on October 22, 1922.  On July 21, 1949 she married Tindaro Bonfiglio.  A few months later, in November, she travelled to the United States where she and Tindaro began a new life together in Calumet City, Illinois.

Giovannina enjoyed being a homemaker.  She loved cooking and baking.  She also loved to sew and crochet.  Most of all, Giovannina loved being in the company of family and friends. Giovannina will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Giovannina is survived by her loving daughters Josephine and Joanna (Terry) Benignetti, her grandchildren Anthony (Diana), and Michael, and her great-grandson Luca.  She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Giovannina was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tindaro, her parents Nicola and Concetta Segreto, her brothers Rosario, Giuseppe, and Salvatore, and her sisters, Carmela, Anna, and Maria.

The family is very grateful for all of the caregivers who participated in Giovannina’s care over the years.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, Indiana from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m.  Services at Holy Cross Cemetery, 801 Michigan City Road, Calumet City, Illinois will immediately follow the mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
