Gust A. Panos, lovingly known as Kostadinos, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, in Munster, Indiana, at the age of 90. Born on August 5, 1935, in Kastria, Kalavryta, Greece, Gust lived a life deeply rooted in faith, family, and tradition.
Gust was the beloved husband of Irene for 63 years and a devoted father to his son Tom (Nancy) Panos, daughters Mary (Pete) Koulouberis and Kathy (George) Fotopoulos. He cherished his role as a grandfather to seven grandchildren: Talia Palazzo, Frankie Palazzo, Ariella Panos, Gianna (Joseph) Angelillo, Serena (Nathan) Bruns, Demetri Fotopoulos, and Kosta Fotopoulos. His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren Violetta Angelillo, Sofia Angelillo, Giorgio Angelillo, and Lucy Mae Bruns; and his many nieces and nephews. Gust is also survived by his sister Margaret (John) Loxas. He was predeceased by his parents Athanasios and Maria Panopoulos; sisters Bessie Kourtis and Alexandra Karountzos; and brothers Jim Panos and George Panos.
A man of deep faith, Gust devoted his life to God through the Greek Orthodox Church. His unwavering commitment to his faith was a cornerstone of his life and guided him in all that he did. Born in Kastria, Greece he came to America as a young man at 20 years old and years later met his beautiful wife Irene. They were married at Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago. He was an active member of the Society of Kalavrytinon and took great pride in preserving the traditions of his heritage.
Gust found immense joy in traveling to Greece and reconnecting with the land of his birth. These trips were not only a celebration of his roots but also an opportunity to share the beauty of his homeland with those he loved most—his family. Above all else, Gust dedicated himself wholeheartedly to being a hardworking husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His kindness, selflessness, and giving nature left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Please continue to keep us in your prayers. May his memory be eternal.
