Helen Jurasevich-Popa, 93, of East Chicago, IN passed away on Monday, September 12, 2016. Loving mother of Helene Anne Mores, Rose Marie (Richard) Neely, Peter (Debra) Jurasevich and John Michael (Bridie) Jurasevich. Cherished grandmother of Matthew P. Travis, John, Brandon and Bridie Jurasevich. Proud great grandmother of Taylor Travis, Matthew P. Travis II and Brandon Jurasevich Jr. Fond sister of Rose Russell. Caring sister-in-law of Dorothy “Draga” Maurushes. Special nieces, Ann Marie “Chee Chee” Lucero and Carol “Nikki” Magliola. Many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Peter “PJ” Jurasevich the father of her children and Charles Popa; sisters, Aurelia and Violet; beloved granddaughter, Lisa Helene Travis. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 3:00-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Funeral service will be private with Very Reverend Ioan Ionita officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Helen retired from the East Chicago School System. She was active in local politics and civic organizations. Helen was a member of the New St. George Romanian Orthodox Church. All her life she was so very proud of her Romanian heritage, her tremendous faith in her Orthodox religion and her beloved children. Our Mom, a woman of great strength for her 5’2 frame. She was a giant of all mothers.
