Herman William Stauffer, 86 of Schererville, IN formerly of The Villages, FL and Munster, IN. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. passed away on April 28, 2022.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Janice (nee Karl); son, Jeffrey (Jodi Dame); daughters, Judy Knafel and Joni (Donny) Scherer; daughter-in-law, Joyce (Tom) Coulter; brother, Donald (Peggy) Stauffer; grandchildren, Lindsey Stauffer (Tony Canzoneri), Katie (Derek) Terpstra, Molly Stauffer (fiancé Cole Midget), Matthew (Rachel) Knafel, Karly Scherer (fiancé Jim Dye), Kyle Scherer (Courtney Drosos); great grandchildren, Caroline and Tommy Knafel, Caden Midget, Sylvie Terpstra and many loving nieces and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Logiodice and sister, Shirley (Jim) Dengler.

A Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 at 6:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 3:00-6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Herman retired from Centier Bank with over three decades of service as well as a second retirement from Hope Lutheran Church, The Villages, FL. Serving as their Treasurer. Herman proudly served in the U.S. Army, was an active volunteer in his various communities, former Mason, Lions, Club, Elks Club and a member of the Michigan City Orak Shrine Pipes & Drums and a former member of Youchee Country Club.

Herman lived life to the fullest, cliff diving at 75 years old, skydiving at 80 years old. He was an avid golfer (scoring 3 Hole in ones). He played in the Pro/Am Golf Classic at Disney World, FL. He loved music, singing, dancing, sports and performing in musicals and choral groups.

His proudest accomplishment was of the marriage to his beloved and devoted wife and his close-knit family. He was a true and loyal friend and mentor to many family members, friends and co-workers. He was deeply loved and appreciated and will be sorely missed by the many lives he touched.

My sincere condolences to the Stauffer family. I worked with Herm at Centier almost 30 years ago. I'll never forget his kindness. I've thought of him often over the years especially when I drive by the Pine Island branch. May Herm Rest in Peace. Sincerely....Chris O'Brien

Herm (my brother, Ralph, and I knew him as "Herk") and Jan were close friends of my parents, Ralph and Edna Kidder, back in Pittsburgh. I grew up knowing Herk and Jan as dear family friends—I think they may have babysat for Ralph and me way back when (I'm almost 72, an Ralph is 75). My wife, Cecelia, and I had the great pleasure of visiting Herk and Jan in The Villages a few years ago...a wonderful reunion and a flood of memories! We are deeply saddened by Herk's passing, and send our love and hugs to Jan and the entire family.

Our sincere sympathies to Jan and her family. Herm and I had the same name and 10 wonderful years working together at Hope Lutheran Church as treasurer and financial secretary. We enjoyed getting together as couples and having a lunch or dinner and discussing life's adventures and family. Herm will be missed he touched many lives in The Villages.

To the Stauffer family, Sorry to learn of the passing of Herm. We were Munster neighbors who raised our kids together. My heart goes out to all of you during this sad time.
