Irving Smith, 79 of St. John, IN passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years: Carmella Smith; devoted daughter: Catherine (Michael) Cassidy; cherished granddaughters: Emma and Allison Cassidy; sisters: Emogene Mayfield and Blanche Malone; numerous nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents: Thurman and Bertha Ralph; sister: Marjorie (James) Romac. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3:00-7:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave.(next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 12:00 PM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Schererville, IN. Interment, Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Irving was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local #6, St. Michael the Archangel Church and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed working with his hands and fixing things, as well as watching football, basketball and tennis.
