“Bubbles” was born, the only child, to Earl and Orvalette Bozarth of West Frankfort, Illinois on May 5, 1933. Known for her infectious smile, she attended West Frankfort Community High School and was the 1951 Homecoming queen, as well as being an outstanding, award winning trombone player in the band for four years.
“Bubbles”graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a BS in Education and later received a MS degree from Purdue University in Psychology/Guidance and Counseling. She taught at SIU’s University School, McLeansboro HS and Thornton Fractional South HS in Lansing, Illinois where she taught English, PE and worked as Dean of Students as well as being a Guidance Counselor.
While attending SIU “Bubbles” met her husband, Len Zabroski, of Chicago and married Len on June 2nd, 1956 at the First Baptist Church of West Frankfort. She and Len became members of the First United Methodist Church of Lansing, Illinois and later attended the First United Methodist Church in Libertyville, Illinois.
“Bubbles” left this world peacefully at the age of 90 on February 12, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Bub was preceded in death by her son, Steve, and her parents. Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Len, daughter, Sherry (Chris) Wegren of Libertyville,IL, daughter in law, Melinda Zabroski of Chicago, Il, Grandson, Travis Wegren, of Valparaiso, IN., Grandaughter, Carly Wegren, of Petaluma, CA, Cousin, Linda Moll, of Washington, DC as well as many cousins and relatives.
There will be a private burial in West Frankfort, Illinois where “Bubbles” grew up. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
