Jane McMahon (nee Carlyle) passed away on June 13, 2026. Jane was the only child and daughter of Raymond and Ella Carlyle. Jane went to Garfield High School (GHS) in Terre Haute, Indiana class of 1959. Jane attended Indiana State, where she was a proud member of Chi Omega. A Sycamore Graduate of1963, receiving a BS degree in Elementary Education and then embarking north to the “Region” to begin her illustrious career as an Elementary School Teacher.

Jane will be missed and remembered fondly for her love of goldfish and Coke’s, Iced tea with extra ice and lemons. Jane had this amazing ability to make people feel special and heard.

Jane and Terry McMahon (former spouse) raised 4 children. Jane is survived by Scott McMahon, Kristin McMahon, David McMahon (Katie) and Steven McMahon(Emily). She is also survived by her grandchildren; Lucas, Max, Zoe, Samuel, Stella and Bridget McMahon. Jane was very proud of all her children and grandchildren. And lifelong friends Gail, Molly and Jane.

Jane volunteered at Community Hospital and Hospice. She enjoyed raising her children, driving them to and watching every little league game and countless activities. Jane was a vibrant, caring parent and friend. She sent and wrote cards and letters, talked on the phone with friends new and old, knew all of her children’s friends and all of her friends’ children and grandchildren. Jane loved sports of all kinds, she has been watching the Indy 500 since 6th grade and attended the race in person 5 or 6 times, first with her dad as a child and later with family and friends. She attended countless Chicago Bulls, Blackhawks and White Sox games.

Jane had many friends; Alice, Maxine and Rich Conway, Barbara and Tom Pressler, Melinda, Jeans Olds, the Garfield Bunch, she remained close to her cousins (Scott Family) in Terre Haute and their families.

A Celebration of Life for Jane will be held this Fall.

Jane and I had a great rapport and understanding, probably because we are both Pisces, and called each other "Pisces Pal." Our gifts for each other often had something to do with fish of course. The last time I saw her, for her birthday lunch, she insisted I take another pretty fish dish, that was similar to one she had already given me years ago. She also sent home with me the fish napkins we used at lunch. I happily obliged, so glad I did. When she was at Hartsfield she gave me a silver fish pin that had belonged to Millie, knowing how much I loved Millie. Special gifts, reminders of our special friendship. Jane me manquera beaucoup.

Amidst the sorrow of her loss, may you be reminded that love never dies and may you see evidence of the love you share all around you.

We loved Jane from the moment we met her. She was warm, kind, and a loving Mother in Law to Katie, and a beautiful grandma to Zoe and Sam.
