Janice Jean Stauffer (nee Karl), 88, of Munster, IN, formerly of The Villages, FL, passed away on February 7, 2026. Jan was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and moved with her husband to Indiana in 1964 to raise their family.
She is survived by her devoted and loving children: Son, Jeffrey Stauffer; daughters, Judy Knafel and Joni (Donny) Scherer; daughter-in-law, Joyce Coulter (Tom); grandchildren, Lindsey (Tony) Canzoneri, Katie (Derek) Terpstra, Molly (Cole) Midgett, Matthew (Rachel) Knafel, Karly (Scherer) Dye, Kyle (Courtney) Scherer; great grandchildren, Chaylee Canzoneri, Caroline, Tommy, and John Knafel, Sylvie and Heidi Terpstra and Caden and Cameron Midgett; brother-in-law, Donald (Peggy) Stauffer; many loving nieces and nephews; and her dearly loved “grand dog”, Lyla.
Janice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Herman Stauffer; her parents, John and Mary Karl; sisters, Marilyn (Whitey) Malingowski, Audrey (Chris) Nickolas, Rosie Karl; and brother, John (Mary Ann) Karl; sister-in-law, Shirley (Jim) Dengler; and mother-in-law, Ruth Logiodice.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Avenue Munster, IN. Friends may visit with family from 1 to 3 pm. A private memorial service will follow for the family.
Jan retired from Sears working in the credit department at River Oaks. Following her retirement, she worked as a medical office assistant, and for the Mole Hole. Jan was a former member of the Whiting Tri Kappas, Youche Country Club, a founding member of Hope Lutheran Church in The Villages and attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Highland. She was active in Altar Guild and Stephen Ministry. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, lunch dates with her daughters and socializing with her many dear friends, including a special group of women she met while living at Hartsfield Village. Jan was a wonderful cook, homemaker, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be sorely missed by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched with her quiet grace and gentle personality.
