Janice Lee Richwine
It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Janice Lee (Hansen) Richwine entered heaven on March 2, 2024. She was a lifelong, active resident of Munster, IN. Janice had many accomplishments, but most proud of being a wife, mother, and grandmother.
Janice was a graduate of National Louis University in Evanston, IL. She loved teaching elementary school, but suspended her teaching to raise her two daughters. Although not in the classroom, she was a lifelong teacher. She taught Sunday school and numerous floral design classes in her community. Janice found happiness in sharing her talents and always keeping busy. She had numerous hobbies from gardening, needlepointing, reading, and knitting just to name a few. Janice loved creating a beautiful tablescape and garden containers, and took pride in her home.
Janice volunteered tirelessly within her community. She was active in her local PEO chapter, Community Hospital Auxiliary, local Garden Club, Munster PTO, and Girl Scouts. Janice felt satisfaction in leading efforts in helping others.
Janice grew up in a busy family floral business. Her parents, Leslie and June Hansen, were owners of the Hansen Brother Florists in downtown Hammond, IN. When her daughters entered college, Janice returned to her roots and began her own floral business, Petal and Bows, which she ran successfully for 10 years.
Janice was greeted in Heaven by her granddaughter, Mary Kate Phelan, and son in law, Michael Phelan. She is survived by her husband, Richard Richwine, of 61 years. Her family includes her children, Jennifer Richwine Condon (Brian Condon) and Cynthia Phelan Wetoska (Stephen Wetoska); her 5 grandchildren: Emily, Clare, and Julia Condon, and Erin and Sean Phelan.
The funeral will be private with immediate family members.
