Jay Dee Anthony Talesky Jay Dee Talesky, age 73, of Munster IN passed away on June 16, 2024. He was father to Kelli (Jim) Stewart, Robert Talesky, and Adam Talesky. He was the proud grandfather of Trevor Stewart, Ethan Stewart, Noelle Stewart, Beckett Gibson Talesky, and Ashley Talesky. He was caring brother to Sylvia Reill, and uncle to Anthony Reill.
Jay Dee was preceded in death by his wife Linda Talesky, his parents Anthony and Michaeline Talesky, his brother-in-law Harold (Butch) Reill, and nephew Michael Reill.
Jay graduated Tinley Park High School in 1968. He was a Sergeant in the US Air Force during Vietnam as a member of the 2130th Squadron in Croughton RAF Station, England. He earned the Distinctive Service Ribbon by way of the US Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
Jay was a railroad fan and enjoyed the hobby of model railroading. He also was a lifelong model builder primarily focused on creating hyper-realistic airplanes and tanks, but on occasion might divert to a non-military build. One of the family’s favorite executions of his model building was the Star Wars sky battle featuring X-wing vs. TIE Fighters suspended from the boy’s bedroom ceiling. He shared his love for realistic model building with his sons, and they often garnered awards in model building club competitions.
Pivoting his love for the military into a new direction, Jay wrote the book “Valor’s Way” under the name JD Talesky. The book is set in an alternative universe that mirrors the beginning of WWII. Jays’ knowledge of war and military details was unmatched. Jay belonged to writing groups and was constantly documenting details to use in his writing.
As a vocation, Jay worked at Burroughs Corporation and Unisys, Banks, and other computer service companies. He was an avid PC Gamer.
Jay believed real men love cats. He also believed there was usually one way to do things- the right way. This military-training thought process was regularly tested by his children.
Jay was devoted to his wife and spent much of the later part of his life caring for her. He was disappointed to have to pivot to decaf coffee. Through those challenges, he was able to maintain his sarcastic sense of humor, yet he also softened and became more sentimental.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Jay on Sunday June 30, 2024 at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN from 3-6pm with a brief service at 6pm. Military Burial at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery July 1, 2024 at 12:30, with luncheon to follow.
