Jean was born and raised in Hammond, IN. She was the oldest of three children. Her parents Angeline and Andrew Gumula, were Polish immigrants. Jean graduated from Hammond High School and worked as a secretary in Chicago and at the Queen Anne Candy Co. Hammond prior to her marriage to John M. Narvid in 1945. Throughout their 61-year marriage, they raised five children in Munster, IN, until retiring to Vero Beach, FL. Jean was an avid reader and wonderful cook, passing on her family’s traditions generation after generation. She was also a terrific seamstress and enjoyed gardening. She maintained childhood friendships throughout her life with her infamous “Bunco Club.” However, her true passion was her husband and family. Jean dedicated her life to them. A special thank you to all the staff and caregivers at St. Anthony Home who took care of Jean for the past 6 years.
