It’s been seven years since the world lost Jeffrey D. Batliner, but not a day passes without a memory, a laugh, or a lesson from him resurfacing in the lives he touched. Dad here are the words that I did not get a chance to say. You were a man of undeniable charm, wit, and integrity. In a world often skeptical of car salesmen, he stood out as the most honest of them all—a rarity, and a point of pride he carried with grace. He didn’t just sell cars; he built relationships, whether people came in down on their luck or riding a high. He saw everyone clearly and treated them with dignity.
Numbers were his language, strategy his nature. He always seemed to know how to make the odds work in your favor, not his. That was just Dad. His aim was never just to make a sale but to make sure you came back—and you often did, because you knew he had your best interest at heart.
I still smile thinking about my first car, the one I bought through him when I was 18. The steering column was a little off—tilted slightly to the left—but in his charming, offhanded way, he assured me it was a safety feature to keep me from drifting into oncoming traffic. That was Dad: part practical joke, part overprotective guardian, all heart.
He had a gift for celebration. No victory was too small to be championed, and he had a way of making you feel like the most extraordinary person in the room. His humor was legendary, full of on-the-spot one-liners that would break a room open in laughter—so good that he recycled them for years, never failing to get a chuckle even on the hundredth retelling.
To us, he was “Batman,” our personal superhero. But like all heroes, he battled his own demons—challenges he couldn’t always conquer in this life. In faith, I pray he found peace in the next.
Seven years gone, and I miss him more than words can express. There’s so much more I wish I had said, more love I wish I had expressed, more time I wish we’d had. But what I do have is the legacy he left—one of laughter, loyalty, love, and a kind of magic that made even the everyday feel worth remembering.
Love you always, Dad.
Your memory drives me still.
