Former Indiana State Representative Jerome (Jerry) J. Reppa of Munster died peacefully on October 1, 2014 at the age of 89. A native of East Chicago, he was a 1943 graduate of Catholic Central High School (Bishop Noll Institute). He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served on Guadalcanal during World War II. Following honorable discharge, he attended Butler University and earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami Law School in 1953. He was a member of the American, Florida, Indiana and Lake County Bar Associations, and practiced law for 60 years. Elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1972, he served the people of Lake County for 18 years until his retirement from the Legislature in 1990. He later served as GOP member and Chair of the Lake County Board of Elections and Registration. Additional service included Stewardship Committee and Holy Name Society of St. Thomas More Parish; Msgr. Connelly Council Knights of Columbus; Fourth degree K of C, Abraham Lincoln Assembly; Past President, Serra Club of the Calumet Area; Past President of Hoosier Boys’ Town; and Board member of Campagna Academy Foundation and Citizens Savings Foundation. He was a member of the Notre Dame Club of Northwest Indiana and the Council of the Sagamores of the Wabash. He and his wife, Pat, were recognized by St. Thomas More School for their many years of commitment to Catholic education. A lifelong Chicago White Sox fan and baseball historian, he coached Little League in Munster. He simply loved Notre Dame football. In recent years, he enjoyed singing with the Hartsfield “Village Voices” Choir. He is survived by his son, Jim Reppa of Highlands Ranch, CO; his daughters Laura (John) Monteen of Merrillville, Nancy (Tim) Johnson of Flossmoor, IL, Mary (George) Behrens of Munster, Julie (Ken) Myers of Dyer, Cathy (Brian) Lundeen of Elm Grove, WI, and Carolyn (Dave) Blocher of Munster. Also survived by 18 grandchildren: Paul, Claire, Grace and Erin Myers; George, Maggie, Patrick and Kevin Behrens; Ann Marie Monteen; Pete, Dave and Mike Johnson; Natalie Reppa; Jack, Will and Craig Lundeen; Matt and Mary Beth Blocher; his precious great-grandchild, Mia Rose Monteen; his devoted nephew Paul (Jean) Reppa of Frankfort, IL; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Patricia (nee Wirtz); his parents, John K. and Verna B. Reppa; brothers Kalman, Vernon, John, Andrew, and David; and sisters Ann Pommerville, Marie Walsh and Joan Adam. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 2:00-6:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Monday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will be private.
