John Charles Owczarzak, Jr., 83 from Dolton Illinois passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife, Gerry of 61 years. Together they raised 2 sons, Michael (Monica) and Raymond (Karen) . He was the cherished grandfather of Madison and Harrison Owczarzak. John was a beloved brother to James (Mary Carmody), Marge (Richard) Green and Mary (Jim) Hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Owczarzak; a brother, Joseph Owczarzak; and a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Bill) Peppard. John was a very special uncle to many nieces and nephews as well as a dear cousin.

John was an Army Veteran who served in Panama and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. John was an art teacher for the School City of Hammond for 34 years before his retirement and always spoke fondly of the talent he saw in many of his students. John’s artistic talents were unlimited as demonstrated by his charcoal sketches, pastels, oil paintings and miniature shadow boxes that he shared with family and friends.  John was an accomplished golfer with 4 holes-in-one to his credit. His talents and personality will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. from Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN on Saturday, June 29, 2024.  Visitation will be on Saturday, at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
