John R. Dahlkamp, age 84 of St. John, IN, formally of Highland, IN passed away peacefully with all his family at his side on Monday, January 2, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly (nee Aurand), and children Steve (Debbie), Lisa (Dave) Misirly and Kevin (Kelly), and his five grandchildren, Matt & Megan Misirly, Ryan & Reid Dahlkamp and Kendall Dahlkamp. Also survived by his sister Shelby Lofay, and special cousins, Carol Bocken and Janet (Tom) George (both, nee Blackman), and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Elinor Weiss and John Dahlkamp, brothers Dick Weiss and Joe Weiss-Rogers and special aunt and uncle, Charles & Shirley Blackman. John Graduated from Bishop Noll H. S. in 1951, and was a member of the US Army from 1953-1955. John retired from NIPSCO in 1990 after 33 years of service. He also was on the Highland Plan Commission and BZA for several years, and the Town Ordinance Inspector. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church for 25 years and then St. John the Evangelist for the last 12 years. John loved his Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears, and playing golf with friends and family. He also loved watching his grandkids play sports over the years, with his lawn chair in hand, and radio & ear phones on listening to the Cubs. Visitation will be Friday, January 6, 2017 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Avenue,( next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN. Funeral at St. John the Evangelist, corner of 93rd and US Rt. 41, St. John, IN, on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
