John A.“Jay” Churilla, 58, a 50 years resident of Calumet City, IL passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013. Jay, the son of the late John and Izetta “Rusty” Churilla, was born June 23, 1954 at the Little Company of Mary Hospital, Evergreen Park, IL. Beloved brother of Bruce Ann, Phillip (Sue Puente) and Michael Churilla; loving uncle of Rachel A. Churilla. Jay was a graduate of Our Lady of Knock Grade School in 1968, Thornton Fractional North High School in 1972 and received an Associate Degree from Thornton Community College. He loved many things including, fishing, (going to Minnesota and Canada twice a year), darts (winning many state dart tournaments), “Classic Rock” music, carpentry and gardening. He played football and loved to play hockey, ice hockey with the “Calumet City Sabres” and floor hockey with the “Calumet City Babellas” Jay worked for Calumet City Public Works for 5 years. He loved to clean up around town and working with the “Guys.” Jay was a huge White Sox and Blackhawks fan. Visitation will be on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. and on Tuesday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Church, Lansing, IL. Interment will be private. Jay, you will be surely missed. You were a great brother, uncle and friend.
