John S. Mackin, age 69 of Dyer, IN passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Susan (nee Chrobot) Mackin; sons, Christopher (late Erin) Mackin and Kellen (Sierra) Mackin; grandchildren, Hank and Solace; and siblings, Patrick (Nancy) Mackin, Joanne Mackin, Kelly (Monty) Bruce and Christopher (Lisa) Mackin. John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Mackin; and sister Mary Beth Mackin.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN with a 10:00 CST Mass of Christian Burial offered by Reverend Charles Niblick. Interment will be private at St. Joseph’s Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery in South Bend, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at KISH FUNERAL HOME 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. CST with a Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. CST and again, on Friday at the church from 9:00 a.m. CST until the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
John graduated from St. Joseph High School in South Bend, IN where he met the love of his life Susan freshman year. He received his Bachelor and Master Degrees at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. John worked for Nestle’s over 25 years and was an avid University of Notre Dame fan. The world revolved around John’s sons, grandchildren, family and friends. He also enjoyed supporting and/or coaching his sons in baseball, football and basketball. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in John’s name to the American Cancer Society.
