Joseph “Joe” F. Belovich, 95, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully from his temporary human experience and into his immortal spiritual life on Sunday, April 19, 2026. He is survived by his son, Joseph A. (Janae) Belovich; two grandsons, Joseph D. and James A. Belovich; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Julia Belovich; his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Bernice Belovich; and his sisters, Julia Olenik, Anna Sroga and Vernie Bobowski.
During his youth, Joe participated in the Boy Scouts of America and Sea Scouting programs, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. “Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle” was Joe’s motto!
Bernice Janulis and Joe first met at East Chicago Washington High School in 1945. They realized at the early age of 15 that they were truly meant for each other. But life sometimes has a way of getting in the way of destiny. After both graduated from WHS in 1948, they lost contact. Bernice went to work for Inland Steel Company. Joe volunteered for active duty in the U.S. Navy, servicing military aircraft until his honorable discharge in 1954. He then worked at companies far away from the region. Through The Power of Intention – that mysterious and invisible force in the universe – and God’s miraculous guidance, they were reunited at Catholic Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in the Indiana Harbor on October 18, 1959, Joe’s birthday. Within six months, they were married on May 7, 1960, and were soulmates forevermore.
Joe received a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in 1958 and a Master’s degree from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1969, both in Electrical Engineering. He earned his Registered Professional Engineer certification in 1969. Early in his career, Joe held multiple engineering positions in electronic design. Joe then worked more than 35 years at Inland Steel, East Chicago, IN, retiring in 1996. During retirement, Joe held consulting and instructor roles with Raytheon and Educational Systems. He was a past member of Electrical Engineering Honorary Societies Eta Kapp Nu and Tau Beta Pi. Joe was also a member of the Instrument Society of America, serving in various leadership roles, including President.
Joe enjoyed swimming laps at the “Y” with Bernice, hosting family gatherings and traveling. Additional interests included boating, collecting coins and searching for a good deal!
Joe always believed he was “an immortal being having a human experience whose legacy will live on forever.”
