Joseph M. Cwiok, 85, of Munster, IN passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cecile; sons, Jeff Cwiok and Kevin (Catherine) Cwiok; daughter, Michele (William) Salanty; brother, Eugene (Terry) Cwiok; many nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his sisters, Lillian Czarnecki and Virginia Matey; brother, Leonard Cwiok. Visitation will be on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Saturday from 11:30-12:00 at the church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 12:00 PM at St. Thomas More Church, Munster, IN. Interment will be private at a later date. Joe was a Sargent in the motor pool with the US Army during the Korean War. He was formerly employed at Rand McNally, Harrison Lithographers and Frank’s Bindery. Joe was an active member of St. Thomas More Church. He was a member of the Usher’s Club, the Garden Club and Holy Name Society. He was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Weis Council #10596, recipient of the Columbia Award and a member of the Abraham Lincoln Assembly #235 of Lake County, they will have an Honor Guard stand from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday night. His hobbies included woodworking, gardening, bike riding, he once participated, with his son in the Apple Cider Century, a 100 hundred mile bike ride through Michigan. He was an avid golfer who scored a hole in one. He enjoyed traveling, boating and bowling for most of his life. He was a big Notre Dame Football fan. Joe was a loving husband and father who will be missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Share Foundation or for Mass’s in his memory would be appreciated.
