Julia Gorecki, nee Orkis, 99, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2016 with her beloved nieces, Nancy (Gordon) Horn and Janet (Dwight) Schwartz at her side. She was born July 2, 1916 in Calumet City, IL. The daughter of the late John and Mary Orkis. Beloved wife of the late Edward Gorecki, loving mother of the late Robert Gorecki. She will be greatly missed by her great nephew, Joshua Horn and her great nieces, Allison Schwartz, Melissa Schwartz and Andrea Horn. A dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Julia lived a long, full life during her almost 100 years. She was the oldest of 5 children to John and Mary Orkis. She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Orkis and sisters, Joan Dobrowolski, Lottie Lochte and Sally Hawkins. Julia was raised in Calumet City, IL. She graduated from St. Andrew the Apostle Grade School in 1931 and Thornton Fractional High School in 1935. After the death of her husband and son in 1960, Julia started a career working for the Hammond Credit Union, and then the Calumet National Bank, until she finally retired for good. Julia was a proud member of St. Andrew Church, the St. Andrew Women’s club and the Polish Women’s Alliance. Julia’s biggest joy in life was her family. Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL.
