Kathleen Ann Dunn of Dyer, IN passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.  Kathy was born in East Chicago, IN and grew up in the surrounding area. She loved to talk about travel, food and wine. She loved to dance and had a great appreciation for the arts. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends doing the simple things in life surrounded by those that she loved.

Kathy met John at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, where she received a B.S. in Speech Pathology. They married shortly after graduation and relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where John was in the Air Force.  Kathy earned a Masters in Speech Pathology at the University of New Mexico and became a sought-after speech therapist, who was adored by the children that worked with her. In addition to the example the couple set for devoted marriage, her greatest accomplishment in life was successfully raising her two children, Laura and John.

Kathy was a devout Catholic who lived her life placing God first.  Her spirituality was contagious as reflected in the impact she made on the lives of her family and friends. She exuded kindness and love in both her words and actions. She was inspired by Saint Therese of Lisieux whose devotion to Jesus had a profound impact on her life and the lives of her family. She frequently reflected on the teachings and life of Mother Theresa (now Saint Theresa of Calcutta) and this quote from her embodies how Kathy lived her life: “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, John W. Dunn; brother, Martin F. (late Carol) Shreibak; one brother-in-law Leo (Diane) Dunn; two children, Laura (Andrew) Sexton and John Martin (April) Dunn; one granddaughter, Reagan Elizabeth; and nieces and nephews, Diane (William) Hamrick, Brian (Jackie) Curtis, Suzanne Curtis, Shannon Shreibak and Ryan Shreibak. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Cleona Shreibak; in-laws, John and Bernice Dunn; sister, Maureen S. Curtis; brother-in-law, Richard Curtis; and sister-in-law, Carol Shreibak.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at St. Maria Goretti Church 500 Northgate Dr, Dyer, IN 46311 with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial.  Interment will follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park Crown Point, IN. Visitation will be on Monday, May 22, 2023 at KISH FUNERAL HOME 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Donations in Kathy’s name can be made to a charity of your choice.
