Laura D. Hernandez, born on April 13, 1954 to proud parents Irene Sifel and Arthur Hernandez, peacefully passed away on September 11, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 69 years old.

Laura was a cherished daughter, sister, and a loving mother. She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Hernandez; step father, Edward Sifel; and sister, Elizabeth Morales. Laura leaves behind a legacy of love and family, including her beloved daughter, Claudia, who was the light of her life.

In addition to Claudia, Laura is survived by her mother, Irene Sifel; two nieces, Lauren and Ilsa Morales; grand niece, Olivia; her two nephews, Artie and Nicky Hernandez; and brother, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Laura was an avid Beatles fan, had a deep passion for Chicago sports, particularly the Bears and the White Sox. Her enthusiasm for the games brought joy to those who watched alongside her, especially her best friend and comadre, Karen Hernandez. Her love for animals was boundless, and she often found solace in the company of her furry companions.

Throughout her working years, Laura dedicated herself to St. Catherine Hospital, where she served diligently until her well earned retirement. Her commitment to the hospital touched the lives of many.

Laura was not just a caregiver in her professional life but also in her community. She was an active member of the Munster Democratic Precinct Organization and invested her time in local politics to create positive change for her neighbors and community.

Services to Celebrate Laura’s life will be held at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, Indiana on  Saturday, September 23, 2023 starting at 12:00 P.M. until the time of  services at 4:00 P.M. It is a time for family and friends to gather, share stories, and honor the memory of a remarkable woman who made a difference in the lives of those she touched.

Laura will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to both her family and her community.
