Linda Marie Matson (nee LaPeer) passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024 at the age of 80 in Morgan, Vermont. Linda was born on September 11, 1943 in Hammond, Indiana to Lawrence Victor “Vic” and Geraldine “Jerry” LaPeer.
Linda grew up in Northwest Indiana and later moved to Morgan, Vermont in 2015, to live with her daughter and her family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, finding immense joy in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Linda was a beloved friend to many and was cherished by her special friends as family. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (John) Stevens of Morgan, Vermont; and her son, Jeffrey Matson of Valparaiso, Indiana. Linda will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Emma and Sarah Stevens of Morgan, Vermont and Layne Matson of Valparaiso, Indiana. She is also survived by her sisters, Vicki (Rick) Krolik, Marie (Louis) Berthold and Shelly LaPeer of Munster, Indiana; along with numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Nancy Berkley and Suzan LaPeer; and brother, Jean LaPeer.
Linda attended St. Mary’s in East Chicago, Indiana for primary school and Bishop Noll Institute in Hammond, Indiana for high school. She was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport, Vermont. In her free time, Linda enjoyed being a Girl Scout leader in Indiana, traveling with friends, playing bunco, crafting, cooking and interior design.
Visitation to be held Friday, August 16, 2024 from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, Indiana with a Blessing at 5:00 p.m. Mass will be held on August 17, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Church 500 Northgate Drive Dyer, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org) or Orleans Essex Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, 46 Lakemont Road, Newport, VT 05855. Linda’s kindness, love, and warm spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
