Lonnie Sanders was born on October 25, 1944 to the parentage of the late Lonnie and Minnie Sanders, Sr., of Inkster, Michigan. For 17 years, Lonnie served the nation with humility, as a Captain in the United States Air Force. During his time in the military he served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War. Later settling in the Chicagoland area, Lonnie would choose a life long career in hospital administration. He was a dedicated Big Brother volunteer and even became a Foster Parent to needy children. Everyone who knew Lonnie, knew that he was a jazz music enthusiast, enjoyed cheering for the Chicago Bears and Chicago White Sox, and loved his grandchildren. He departed this life on Friday, April 30, 2010. Lonnie leaves to cherish his memories; a loving wife, Gilda Curry Sanders of Munster, IN; three devoted children Ailene of Torrance, CA, Sean (Alicia) of Washington, DC, and Tiffany of Chicago, IL.; three beautiful grandchildren Amelia, Ali and Alion; a doting mother-in-law Ernestine Barnett of Hammond, IN; sister Charlene Neusom of Atlanta, GA and a brother Oliver Sanders of Columbus, OH; and a host of loving family and friends.Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, May 6, 2010 from 6:00-7:30 PM with a Memorial service to be held at 7:30 PM, at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, (next to Fitness Pointe) Munster, IN 46321.
