Lottie Jean Schuster, beloved aunt, passed away July 10, 2017, at her home in Munster, IN. She was born in East Chicago, IN, the daughter of Wiktor Kocur and Marja Pogorzelski Kocur, and the youngest of six children. Lottie, who graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School, was an excellent student who grew up to become a very successful young lady. After graduation, she began a long career working in the accounting departments of various steel companies. While employed at the steel company she met Martin Schuster, of Granite City, IL, who worked as a metallurgical engineer. She and Marty were married on December 27, 1952, then spent several years in Washington, DC, while he was in the Navy. They eventually settled in Granite City, near St. Louis, where Lottie worked for many years at Granite City Steel. In 1972 Marty was transferred to the Chicago area, so they moved to South Holland, Illinois, with Lottie then resuming her career at Midwest Steel. After Marty passed away in 1990 Lottie eventually moved to Munster to be closer to family. \t Lottie was very close to her Ciba, Kocur and Schuster nieces and nephews, who survive her and her brother-in-law Fred Schuster. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin Schuster; her brothers, Edward, Joseph (Eleanor) and Stanley (Marjorie) Kocur; her sisters, Sophie Kocur, RN and Helen (Edward) Ciba; sister-in-law, Shirley Schuster; niece Karyn Kelly; and nephew Richard Kocur.\t Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017 DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN with a 12:00 p.m. (noon) Mass of Christian Burial offered by Father Leo Gajardo. At Rest Holy Cross Cemetery Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be on Saturday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. Mass. Lottie was a woman of many interests and many hobbies. She loved golf, and went on many memorable golf trips with her husband Marty. She also enjoyed a number of hobbies, crafts, including knitting and tole painting. She became most famous, though, for her extraordinary baking and candy-making ability, especially her pizzelles and chocolate turtles. Lottie also loved dogs, particularly poodles, and over the years had many beloved poodles. She was a devout, lifelong Catholic who was very proud of her Polish heritage. An active member of St. Maria Goretti Church, Lottie regularly attended meetings of the SPARC group there. She was also a regular at the Fitness Point where she enjoyed both the fitness activities and the camaraderie of friends. Lottie, who was known for her wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed many close friendships and always stayed in touch with her friends, no matter where they lived. Lottie was a generous and kind-hearted woman who will always be remembered for her willingness to help family and friends in need. \”When through one woman a little more love and goodness, a little more light and truth come into the world, then that woman's life has meaning.\” Lottie's life indeed had meaning. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Maria Goretti Church in Dyer.
