Mary Ann ‘Mamie’ Carter, 85, a long-time resident of Briar Ridge Country Club, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on March 21, 2014. Mary Ann was born in Chicago, IL, on April 1, 1928. She and her beloved husband, Dr. Gilbert Carter, were married in 1951, and enjoyed 60-years of marriage. Together, they raised two children, Claudia Carter-Piegza, 57, and her sister, Sandra Carter, 51, (Weyhe) Tony Weyhe as well as their grandchildren, Christopher Piegza, 33, and Lindsay Piegza, 31. Sisters and brother-in-law, Helen (Dr. Edward) Martin and Dorothy Tennes; many nieces and nephews. Mary Ann loved watching the Bears and classic movies, and playing with her youngest grandchild, Sandra’s and Tony’s daughter, Madelaine Weyhe, 10. For her strength, guidance, and selfless dedication to keeping a happy home, her family is eternally grateful. Without her never-ending love and support, they would not be where they are today. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 8501 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Entombment will be at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Orland Park, IL.
