Mary Kathryn Van Slyke, 86, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2014. She was a resident of Hammond, IN for most of her life until 3 years ago when she moved to the Wittenberg Village in Crown Point, IN. Mary is survived by her son, George A. (Susan) Van Slyke III of Inverness, IL; daughters, Suzanne M. Van Slyke of Schererville, IN and Deborah K. (Wayne) Sebenste of Merrillville, IN; grandchildren, Patrick (Kim) Van Slyke of Lisle, IL, Sean (Noelle) Van Slyke of Maplewood, NJ, Alysia (Sherman) Paul of Hammond, IN, Erin (Ki) Choi of Palatine, IL and Derek (Erin) Sebenste of Noblesville, IN; great grandchildren, Nolan Sebenste of Noblesville, IN, Alexa and Ella Van Slyke of Maplewood, NJ, Alissa Choi of Palatine, IL; sister, Eileen (Glen) Nichols of Desert Hills, AZ; brother, James (Bonnie) Beatty of Redmond, WA; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George A. Van Slyke Jr. and her parents, Robert and Marie Beatty. Mary attended All Saints Grade School and graduated from Hammond Tech High School in 1945. Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #16 where she served as President for one year, Terre Des Dunes 8 and 40, as well as the All Saints Rosary Society. Mary retired after 20+ years from Purdue University Calumet Purchasing Department. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. Tuesday evening services will be held by American Legion Auxiliary Post #16 at 5:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at 10:00 AM at All Saints Church, 570 Sibley Blvd. Hammond, IN. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL at a later date.
