It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Melko currently of Schererville, Indiana
and formerly of Lansing, Illinois after a long illness. Throughout his illness, he never lost his mischievous
sense of humour or his love of cookies! He will be sorely missed by his family – loving husband to
Patricia (Hibbs) and amazing father to his three children – Christine Melko (Christian) Ross, Michael
(Elizabeth Jenkins) and Sean. His granddaughter Jordan and grandson Tristan were the light of his life.
He is survived by his brothers Edward, Ron and Joe (Lana) and his sister Margaret Frass (Ron). His is also
survived by his sister-in-laws Sharon (Hibbs) Komorowski, Linda (Dorris) Hibbs and Pam (Pritchard) Hibbs
and his brother-in-laws Ernest “Skip” Komorowski, John Hibbs and Michael Hibbs as well as many nieces
and nephews. He was a dedicated and committed person to everything he did. He will be remembered
as a baseball and basketball coach and mentor to many who he stayed in touch with up to the time of his
death. For over two decades, he was a devoted volunteer for both St. Ann’s Parish in Lansing as well as
the Knight of Columbus #3540 where he served as Grand Knight, District Deputy and a 4th Degree
member. Because of his engaging personality and willingness to help, Mike became friends with
everyone he encountered everywhere he went whether it was at Welch’s Stop and Shop in Saint John,
Ace Hardware in Dyer, Reno-Dept in Montreal or the shores of Hawaii. Although the world seems a little
bleak, rest assured the gates of heaven will never squeak. (This obituary has been brought to you
courtesy of WD-40.) In lieu of flowers, the family has requested to send donations to either the St. Jude
Hospital for Children or the Michael J. Fox Foundation in support of Parkinson’s research. Visitation will be held Thursday
August 13, from 4-7 at Kish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted also on August 13 at 7:00 p.m. also at Kish Funeral Home located at 10000 Calumet Ave Munster IN, 46321
