On Wednesday, September 18, 2024 Michael P. Pannitto, loving husband and father of three passed away at the age of 86.  He is survived by Joyce (nee Chesmar), his devoted wife of 62 years; his children, Michael J. (Roberta) Pannitto, AnneMarie (Gregory) Swiderski and Laura Knodel; his grandchildren, Matthew and Brandon (Jamie) Swiderski, Kelsey and Kyle Knodel and Nicole and Michael R. Pannitto.

Mike was born in Chicago, IL on May 10, 1938 to Michael Joseph and Rose (nee Buoscio) Pannitto.  From an early age Mike possessed the traits he would carry throughout life – loyalty, stability and trustworthiness.  His peers elected him to the office of Mayor of his school at Joseph Warren Elementary.  He went on to attend Mt. Carmel High School, St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN and DePaul University in Chicago.  Mike began his career as an accountant.  He eventually worked his way up to the position of Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of a worldwide snack food company.

Mike and his wife and partner in life, Joyce shared a love of family and community.  Mike served as a Trustee, Police Commissioner and Village Treasurer while working a full-time job.  Mike was the true patriarch of his family.  Thanks in large part to his and Joyce’s encouragement and support, all of his grandchildren went on to college.  He passed on his love of travel to his grandchildren by taking each of them to global destinations of their choosing. His strength provided the support for his family to flourish.  He was rarely the first to speak but when he spoke, people listened.  Mike will be deeply missed by his family and all those who loved him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN by Father Charles Niblick.  Burial will be private.  Visitation will be on Thursday, at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the 12:00 pm. Mass.
