Michael S. Matovina, age 89, passed away on Thursday February 29, 2024. He was born July 14, 1934 to Anna and Joseph Matovina (both preceded him in death). He was preceded in death by his sister: Mary C. Matovina and Helen Matovina; brothers: baby Stephen, Peter, Tom, and Joseph Matovina and Ted (Pat) Matovina. He is survived by his sister-in-law: Beverly Matovina; nieces: Ann Marie (Chuck) Matovina-Hudson and Laura (late Jeff) Keever, nephew: Mark Matovina, and great niece and nephew: Luke and MaKenzie Keever.

Michael was life time resident of Hammond and a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He graduated All Saints Grade School and Bishop Noll Institute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, member of the Croatian Fraternal Union #170, and retired from LTV Steel. He also bartended at Puntillo’s Lounge in East Chicago. He made lifelong friends working there and was considered part of the Puntillo family.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will be at St. John -St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday from 10:00 am -12:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions to All Saints Church, P.O. Box 836, Hammond, IN 46325.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is catching up with his family and friends with a Jim Beam and club soda in hand.
