July 6, 1930 - June 19, 2011

Nicholas Kosmitis, 80, a lifelong resident of the Calumet area, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2011. He is survived by his daughters: Roxanne Schaal, Michele Kosmitis, Beth (Jack) Wickham, Rose (Joe) Chism and Nicholette (Dan) Davis; son: Nick Kosmitis; grandchildren: Jessica, Rochelle, Jackie, Jim, Mandy, Kelsea, Kevin, Macky, Kellie Anne and Nicholas; brother: Tom (Harriet) Kosmitis; sisters: Fann (late Bill Sr.) Edwards and Ann (late Louis) Grahovac; several nieces and nephews; preceded in death by his parents: George and Helen Kosmitis; brother: John Kosmitis; son in law: Carl Knox; Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 24, 2011 from 10:00-11:00 AM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN with a Memorial service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Nicholas retired as a manager with Ford Motor Company, Chicago Heights Stamping Plant. He served with the U.S. Army and was a former member with the Lansing Lions Club and a Junior Achievement Instructor. In lieu of flowers, contributions to VNA Hospice, 2401 Valley Dr. Valparaiso, IN 46383 or Auguste’s Cottage, 606 Wall St. Valparaiso, IN 46383 in his memory would be appreciated.

We were out of town, and when we got home we learned Nick had died. Of course we were stunned. Mary and I remembered when Nick came to my retirement party in 1987. My wife, daughters,and son and his in-laws loved him. My wife and two daughters and I sat in his room at the Hampton Inn and talked for a long time. He and I corresponded briefly by mail and that's when I found out he loved to write poetry. God bless him. May God console and comfort all of you!
