Nila Lee Campbell Kaptur, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 27th, 2025. She was born on July 23rd, 1934 to the late Faith and Edwin Campbell. Survived by her loving husband of 70 years Henry Kaptur, devoted daughters Diane (John) Kitchell, Lisa (Scott) Puma, four amazing grandchildren Jessica (Kevin) Murphy, Lindsey Kitchell, Hannah Puma, Josh Puma, adoring brothers Erwin Campbell, Ronald Campbell, and James (Kay) Campbell, along with many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by sister A. Jeannine Campbell. Nila graduated from Hammond High in 1952 and was a telephone operator for Indiana Bell. For 25 years she was a secretary for Human Resources at Marshall Fields, River Oaks. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines service group and was a member of the Munster Historical Society. Nila and Hank were devoted to each other and loved the home and life that they created together. As her children grew up, she volunteered for every club they were involved in. In her retirement, she enjoyed sewing, painting and planning vacations. She was a breast cancer survivor of over 20 years.

As Mom and Grandma, she always cheered loudest in the audience for every dance recital, play, musical, cross country meet, and lacrosse game. She was the sweetest, kindest person, and she was always thinking of others. Her compassion extended to everyone she ever met, and if she met you once, she always asked about how you were doing. Nila loved to bring a gift wherever she went. She enjoyed playing cards, and more often than not, ended with the winning hand. Nila will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
