Jerry Meyer, age 70, of Munster, IN, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2012 after a brief illness. He was born on July 13, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Indian Hill High School and graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He met his wife, Helga Schroeder, at U.C. and they moved to Munster in 1965. Jerry worked 35 years for DuPont in East Chicago. Jerry is survived by his loving wife Helga after 47 years of marriage, by his beloved daughter Heidi and son-in-law Dan (Munster), by his dear sister Marlene Smith (New Smyrna Beach FL), and by many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Aleen Meyer. Jerry was an active member of the Porsche Club of America, Sports Car Club of America, Life Member of the Munster Lions, DuPont 25 year club, and Delta Tau Delta. He was truly a Renaissance man, a Mensa, and passionate about reading and learning; he learned German for his wife. Jerry loved to travel (especially in Germany), play the trumpet, create metal sculptures, ski, camp, fish, cook, visit museums, work on cars, fix anything, help others, organize events, plan family vacation trips, participate in Porsche Club road rallyes, work registration for SCCA. He loved his cats. A gathering of friends open house will be held on Sunday, July 15, from 3:00 to 8:00. Call Helga for details.
