Dear friends and family of Paul Anderson, I was one of his students at Gavit (class of 1986). Mr. Anderson was more than a teacher, he was a friend. He was a wonderful man and a great teacher. One of the best teachers I had at Gavit- both for middle school and high school. When I look back on all of my photos from that time, many of them are filled with band trips that Paul arranged. He took us to Nashville, TN and to Ontario, Canada during those years. Paul brought us together as a band and had endless energy for our evolution. In the time I knew him, he helped me learn a second instrument (saxophone) and encouraged me to play in jazz band, marching band, concert band, and even musicals. My most cherished memory was when he chose me as the recipience of the John Phillips Souza Band award in 1986. There is a wonderful photo of us in the yearbook at Gavit of that year. I was beyond thrilled and grateful for his work with me and his love for music. I wish I could have another chance to speak with him but just today, I found out that he is gone. It doesn't seem possible. Thank you on behalf of so many of his students.. and love to you all. Jill Uchiyama (Skufakiss)

To Paul's children, I just learned of your father's passing. He was a good friend of mine during my college years at Butler. We attended music school together. Paul was a member of the same pledge class that I joined before we both became members of the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. I remember one year that the fraternity sponsored the Miss Butler pageant at Clowes Hall. Paul directed the orchestra for the show and created the orchestrations for the musical numbers. I also remember his arrangement for "Purlie" He and his fraternity brothers sang together on the Clowes stage with one of the Butler Sororites. We won that Spring Sing competition. He was beyond outstanding on the marching field. He had such great enthusiasm for each performance. He learned to build shows from the great Bob Greschesky who had tremendous respect for Paul. I remember how reverent and respectful Paul was in his Christian walk. He had a great heart and was kind and willing to share his musical gift with everyone. I regret that I did not have an opportunity to say good bye. We say in our fraternity that " A friend sticks closer than a brother." As you remember your father, I hope you will think of what a great teacher he was. Kids would have been very fortunate to have him as their band director. When it comes down to the end, it is important that Paul had a very clear understanding of what really matters in life. When you give your life away, you gain it. I will look forward to seeing Paul in heaven. May God be with your family. James Kerr

I was a young teacher at Thornwood High School when Paul arrived. He immediately energized the band, and managed to demand and encourage excellence while caring for his students. I respected and liked him, and was thrilled when - years after I changed to another school - we connected on Facebook. In January I saw him comment about the flu...and learned today, February 8, of his passing one week ago. He was a good man and a great spirit; I am thankful for all the lives he was able to influence, and sad that I was unaware of the seriousness of his illness. Thank you Paul, for your model of faith, dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Paul, is with his Lord and Savior now. He was one of the kindest and most giving of men. Paul Loved to teach other and share music with everyone he knew. I knew him as a friend and college, He went through many difficult struggles that no-one should really have to endure. But he did so with grace and the example of Jesus Christ. You will be missed Paul.
