Peter S Karnezis, age 87, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 18, 2023.  He was born on August 15, 1936 in Louka, Tripolis, Greece.  He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Julia (nee Lambrakos), loving father of Diane (Kenneth) Cooper, Phillip Karnezis and Georgia (late Steve) Karnezis.  Loving and proud Papou of Peter (Lea) Karnezis and William (Will) Cooper. Great grandfather to Oliver George Karnezis.  Brother to George (Elaine) Karnezis, Evans (Eleftheria) Karnezis, Tom (Marie) Karnezis. Brother-in- law to Kosta (Kathy) Lambrakos, Matina (Themis) Voulgaris and Helen Karnezis. Preceded in death by his loving son Steve Karnezis, beloved grandson Yiorgo Karnezis.  His parents Stylianos and Nicoletta (Papadopoulos), brothers Nick, Napoleon (“Louie”), sisters Haralambia Fotinopoulos, Athanasia Theodorakidis.

Peter immigrated from Greece at the young age of 13 and came to live with his beloved Uncle Ted & Aunt Christine. He attended and graduated from the Chicago Vocational school and started his career in mechanical engineering. He later became a businessman and worked side by side with his wife Julia in their business, Julia’s Custom made Draperies and also invested in real estate.  He loved traveling, especially long road trips, fishing and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him including many nephews, nieces, Godchildren, cousins and close family friends both here in the US and in Greece.

​Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 from 4:00-8:00pm with Trisagion prayer service at 6:30pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave, Munster, IN.  Funeral will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 10:00am at St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 7021 Hohman Ave, Hammond, IN.  Interment will be at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Gary, IN.  Peter was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church or to the Memorial Fund FBO Yiorgo Karnezis Scholarship in his memory would be appreciated.
