Phyllis A. Beckman (nee Artim), 91, Munster, Indiana passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at home with loving family at her bedside. Born in Hessville, Indiana to the late R. Ralph and Josephine (nee Yonker) Artim, Phyllis was the eldest of three children. After high school graduation, she attended Saint Mary’s College. Phyllis married her sweetheart, Paul Beckman and they raised four children instilling Christian values and strong family bonds.
A life-long learner, at the age of 39, Phyllis returned to college, graduated with honors and was Valedictorian at Purdue Calumet School of Nursing. She incorporated meticulous patient care,
detailed teaching but most of all, compassion in her Nursing practice. Phyllis remained active in her community and volunteered on School Board, The Dunes National Park, and established a 4H Club. After becoming an Advanced Master Gardener through Purdue extension program, she gave back to the community at events throughout Lake County. However, of all her volunteer experiences, the one she cherished the most was the time she spent helping The Share Foundation. Phyllis found a special place in her heart for the Villagers at Sharing Meadows and joyfully enjoyed their company.
Her greatest joy in life came in spending time with her family. She loved her children so very much and took even greater joy in her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Phyllis
considered them her life’s greatest accomplishment. Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Alice Beckman and Mary (late Michael) Konstant, two sons, Paul (Karen) and Bill (Caris) and grandchildren, Sean, Chelsea (Marcus) Kauppinen, Kevin (Chloe) Konstant, William Konstant and Caroline Konstant, two great-grandchildren, one brother, Bud Artim, and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, her husband, Paul, and her sister, Alice McMahon, preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023 at St. James the Less Church, 9640 Kennedy Avenue, Highland, Indiana. Visitation will be at 10:00AM to 10:30AM at the church
followed by Mass at 10:30 AM. Private Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois. In Lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to The Share
