With her daughters and son by her side, Phyllis Jean Thoben Hasiak, 87, passed away on December 28, 2014, in Munster, IN. Phyllis was born on February 22, 1927 to the late Florence Bowers Thoben of Anderson, IN and the late Robert Herman Thoben of Warsaw, IN. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Anderson and the International Business School in Fort Wayne, IN. She worked for the Fred York Publishing Company until her marriage February 14, 1953, to Leonard Hasiak of Hammond and Munster. She has always been recognized as an exceptional wife, mother grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, caring for those around her with love and humor. All those who had the good fortune to know her were often invited to her kitchen table and treated like royalty by the feisty cook who loved to share her culinary abilities.She is survived and deeply missed by her son Phillip Hasiak, Munster; daughters, Cynthia and Beth both of Alexandria, VA; grandsons Matthew of Munster and Adam of Florida; her sisters, Sue Hart Spatz of Surprise, AZ, Cynthia Thoben Huber of Bowie, MD and Karen Thoben of Indianapolis, as well as a brother Phillip Michael Thoben of Indianapolis. Phyllis is also survived by three sister-in-laws, Kris Thoben and Joan Thoben of Indianapolis and Karen Thoben of Fairfax Station, VA, in addition to her thirteen nieces and nephews, seventeen great nieces and nephews and lifelong friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; by her sister Patricia Thoben of Arlington, VA; and two brothers Richard Thoben of Indianapolis and Gregory Thoben of Fairfax Station, VAOn February 14, 2015, a memorial service will be held at St Maria Goretti Church, 500 Northgate Drive, Dyer, IN. This date was Phyllis and Leonard’s wedding anniversary. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 in the vestibule of the church.
